Om

Om, or Aum, an ancient Sanskrit word, a sacred symbol and mantra with roots in Hinduism and shared with Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.

Aum encompasses the trinity of existence. The A sound invokes the power of creation, the beginning of all things. The U invokes preservation, the maintenance of things, the persevering nature of existence. The M represents destruction or transformation, the inevitable fate of all things.

When chanted, the three letters blend each in to the next, giving the complete "Om" sound. This is followed by a moment of silence, a moment of bliss.

Aum is the first sound, the sound of the beginning of the universe, the sound from which all other sounds evolved and chanting this sacred mantra brings us closer to the truth of ourselves, the universal nature of consciousness.
